Got a new Laptop!
Finally got a new laptop. Sold my old one for a good price too. I love this new machine! It’s fantastic. I only spent a day total to get it configured just how I like it. One word, people: ubuntu. Best Linux distro under the sun IMHO. All the finicky hardware that usually gives me trouble JUST WORKS! Even the hibernate and suspend-to-ram functions work almost out of the box. Pictures and screenshots are here.
Leah and Rainee
Between writing two chapters of my paper, I found time to finish uploading the pictures from the party. Here is one of Leah and Rainee. You can view the rest as a cool slideshow hosted on Flickr. Most of them have no meaningfull title. I also wanted to upload pictures from the commencement ceremony, but that’ll have to wait another break. Okay, going back to work now …
Barbecue Pictures

I posted a few more pictures at Flickr. I’ll add more as time and space permit. Enjoy!
Defense and graduation …
Took my defense about a week ago. Graduated with my PhD the next day. I then hosted an awesome party (pictures are on flickr!) at my house. All in all, this was a good week! I then toke off for a week and spent some time with my family. Some well-deserved rest at last! I’m going back to work tomorrow. Should be leaving for Berlin soon!

What really got my blood boiling is the argument by suporters of intelligent design (euphemism for creationist) that the second law of thermodynamics precludes evolution. This argument, which makes no sense to a physicist, has convinced many. Yet another example of the failing of science education in the US of A. I can’t begin to describe how annoying it is to me when someone tries to use Physics to spread ignorance. Or maybe I can …
